View Mode

NOTE – When you first register for a portfolio, or create a new portfolio there will be no contents within the view mode (see fig 1.1).

Fig 1.1

Portfolio view mode is the method by which you can review your holdings and the profit and losses made since purchase.

Across the top of the tools there are a number of headings:

Name
The name of the holding

Quantity
The number of units (shares, fund units etc.) that you hold

Current price (pence)
The current market price (mid price in the case of shares and some funds)

Change on day (pence)
The change in value (if any) of the share or fund

Gain / Loss
The amount that the holding has gone up or down in value since it was purchased.

Value
The current value of the holding. This figure is calculated by multiplying the current market price by the number of holdings.

Below these headings data is divided up into types of holdings – i.e. stocks and shares, Unit Trusts and OEICs, Life and Pension funds and other investments (see fig 1.2)

Fig 1.2

Each of these sections has two subtotals (see fig 1.3). The first of these figures details how much all investments within this category have gone up or down by since purchase.

Fig 1.3

For example if ‘fund A’ has increased in value by £200, but ‘fund B’ has decreased in value by £50, your subtotal for ‘Unit Trusts and OEICS’ price movement would be “+£150”

The second of these figures indicates the total value of this holding type.

For example if you have £100 in British Airways and another £100 in BT, your subtotal for stock and share holdings would be “£200”.

At the very bottom of the page is displayed your cross investment type totals. Once again here you will see a figure detailing price movement and total holding value (see fig 1.4)
